T ARC (X) Cable System Consultancy

Cable System Consultancy for Philly Shipyard

In 2020 MAATS Tech Ltd were employed by Philly Shipyard, Inc. (PSI) to act as Cable Systems Consultant & Cable Systems Integrator for their tender for the design of a potential new-build cable installation and repair vessel for the US Navy, designated T-ARC(X).

The vessel is planned to be the successor to the existing USNS ZEUS (T-ARC-7).

MAATS’ contribution on this project was to provide expert technical advice to the ship designers, as well as issue system drawings and reports as part of an integrated vessel design solution, which was required to fulfil tender obligations.

MAATS worked in close cooperation with VARD Marine Inc. (VARD) on the cable hangar and aft deck design and acted as an industry representative on behalf of the nominated supplier for the Plough, ROV and deck equipment.

It was suggested to PSI that MAATS come onboard this project by VARD due to the longstanding relationship that MAATS and VARD have enjoyed for many years and that has produced several previous successful cable vessels jointly delivered in Norway.

The proposed vessel was originally based on the successful commercial VARD 9 series cable lay vessel designs. Over the last 12 months the ship design has evolved dramatically to specifically suit the US Navy’s requirements.

During this time, using their extensive experience in cable lay technology and innovation, MAATS came up with some novel cable deck solutions to assist in reducing the overall vessel cost and budget.
