Steady state heat transfer analysis of a power supply electric cable.


MAATS FEA team were asked to assist on analysis of the steady state heat transfer of a power supply electric cable which was to be used to power up a pump.   MAATS Tech engineers are experienced in thermal analysis of critical components in high-performance applications using both Finite Element Analysis and manual calculations.


The client required the temperature gradient across the cable cross-section for 12 combinations of varying currents, oil flow rates and external temperatures.  For each load combination the body flux of the copper cores and the convection of energy from the cable through the oil was manually calculated and applied to the FEA model.
