The 8th November saw the float-out of the Nexans Aurora cable lay vessel. The 149.9m long and 31m wide vessel was launched at Ulstein Verft prior to the final outfitting of equipment and commissioning phases.
The innovative vessel is constructed using the combined expertise of Nexans’ extensive cable laying experience, Skipsteknisk’s naval architecture know-how, Ulstein Verft’s ship-building prowess, and MAATS’ specialist engineering. The vessels concentric, split basket 10,000Te carousel with dual cable lay capabilities, utilisation of separate Capstan or Tensioner firing lines, and the ability to complete operations in the most severe weather conditions anywhere in the world mean that, on completion, the CLV Nexans Aurora will be the most advanced cable laying vessel in the world.
The flagship of the fleet, Nexans Aurora has her first assignment at Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm off Scotland due to commence in 2021.
A really exciting project to be a part of.
